What you can do

  • Draw, type or upload a signature

  • Add a cryptographic digital signature with an X.509 certificate
  • Add an RFC 3161 timestamp from the timestamp server you choose
  • Check the digital signatures on a PDF you received with Validate Signature

Why do it on your computer

Signing usually means uploading a contract to an e-signature service and making an account. Paperwing signs on your computer. A timestamp, if you add one, sends only a hash of the document to the server you pick.

Paperwing is a free, open-source desktop app for Windows and macOS with more than 100 PDF tools. It works offline, there’s no account, and every tool is free. Download it or browse all the tools.

Questions

Is a drawn signature legally binding?

In many places an electronic signature you draw or type is valid for most agreements, but the rules depend on your country and the document. For documents that need proof of who signed, use Digital Signature with a certificate.

Where do I get a certificate for a digital signature?

From a certificate authority, your employer, or your government’s e-ID scheme. Paperwing uses the certificate file you give it and keeps it on your computer.
